The channel that is today's USA Network was launched on September 22, 1977, as the Madison Square Garden Sports Network (not to be confused with the similarly-named New York City-area regional sports network now simply known as the MSG Network).

On April 9, 1980, Madison Square Garden Sports Network was rebranded as the USA Network. The typeface used is Futura Extra Bold for "USA", and the word "Network" was Helvetica.

One year later, the word "Network" was matched with the word "USA" typeface.

1996–1999

A new look for the USA Network was introduced on June 17, 1996. A blue star was added to the logo, and a new typeface was introduced.

A new look for the USA Network was introduced in July 1999. This "American flag" logo design was used for the network's other divisions at the time, USA Networks Inc., Studios USA, USA Broadcasting, USA Cable Entertainment, USA Films, and USA Home Entertainment.

2002–2003

A simplified version of the 1999 logo, reducing the number of stripes on the flag from seven to five.

In 2005, the USA network was rebranded with a completely new logo and the new slogan "Characters Welcome". The rebrand was unveiled on June 20 and launched onto screens on July 8 for the season premiere of Monk.

In April 2016, USA Network dropped the "Characters Welcome" slogan, replacing it with "We the Bold", and has since downplayed its on-air usage of "Network".
