MSNBC was founded in 1996 by Tom Rogers as a partnership between NBC and Microsoft (MSN). The prototype logo consisted of the NBC peacock above the text with a combination of the 1995 MSN logo (with the red "n" appearing in a slightly larger point size) and the 1986 NBC wordmark. This logo was used only in promotions for the network's launch.

2000–2006

In 2000, the "N" bridging both sections of the "MSNBC" name representing its original corporate co-parents was changed from red to black. In 2005, Microsoft sold its share to NBC, the website followed suit by 2012.

2006–2009

The logo was changed to horizontal form in 2006, making the logo closer in resemblance of CNBC's logo.

This logo, with the letters in lowercase form, first appeared on MSNBC.com in April 2007, and was launched on screen on June 27, 2009, as the channel started broadcasting in high-definition.

The letters returned to uppercase form on August 18, 2015, while retaining the same typeface as the previous logo.

On March 29, 2021, MSNBC debuted an updated logo, adopting a nameplate typeface similar to that of the logo used since 2018 on its digital platforms.

On December 2, 2023, MSNBC updated its logo, adopting the redesigned peacock and typeface introduced by corporate parent NBC in November 2022 and rolled out across the network's properties, including NBC News, throughout 2023.

On August 18, 2025, it was announced that MSNBC will rebrand as MS NOW (an acronym for My Source for News, Opinion, and the World) by the end of the year, because after being spun-off alongside most of NBCUniversal's other cable channels into a new company, Versant, it will no longer be able to use the NBC name and logo.[2] Starting from October 6–20, 2025, MSNBC's operations were split off from NBC News.[3] The rebrand to MS NOW launched on November 15, 2025.[4]
