On January 25, 1980, BET was launched as Black Entertainment Television, an African American-aimed programming block on USA Network (now owned by NBCUniversal) before being shifted to 24/7 three years later. The channel's logo have always incorporated a star.

In 1989, the channel started going by its acronym of BET; the logo is an expanded version of the above.

2000–2005

BET (2001)

In Fall 2000, the logo was altered slightly by straightening up the letters, making other alterations to them (such as reducing the spaces within the letters and redrawing the "T" significantly to account for its re-adjustment) and filling out the star.

This overhauled logo was introduced in January 2005, when the network celebrated its 25th birthday. Push Creative and Click 3X were behind the redesign.[1][2]

Despite being updated in 2010, this logo was still used on BET Hip-Hop and BET Gospel until 2015 and 2016, respectively. It was also used on BET Networks until the following year.

In 2010 (coinciding with sister channel MTV rebranding with an alteration to its logo), the previous logo was slightly altered to fill in the star.

On March 27, 2021, BET was officially launched on Pluto TV in Brazil.

2021–present

This "Black Canvas" logo was revealed in promos for the 2021 BET Awards, and is the first completely overhauled logo in 16 years. It has since rolled out to other BET-branded media and assets.
