On August 31, 1987, after WTVN-TV was bought by Anchor Media from Great American Broadcasting, the new ownership changed the station's callsign to WSYX. The station kept its 1984 logo even with the change.

On January 7, 2021, the Sinclair Broadcast Group moved the intellectual property of sister station WTTE to a third subchannel of WSYX, as part of Columbus' adoption of ATSC 3.0. WTTE then became a primary affiliate of Sinclair-owned TBD.
