In 2006, the station became a MyNetworkTV affiliate as KIMO (channel 13, now known as KYUR) was selected to become a CW affiliate on a digital subchannel. In 2015, Gray Television announced that it would purchase channel 5 and its relay stations, the sale was completed the following year.

On July 31, 2020, Gray purchased the CBS affiliation rights in Anchorage as well as all non-license assets of its previous affiliate KTVA (channel 11) from GCI Communications.

In 2021, CBS programming moved to KYES-LD and KTUU-DT5 as part of a major transmitter upgrade. As a result, channel 5 began carrying MyTV programming on its primary subchannel.
