On July 25, 2016, it was announced that WHOI's ABC affiliation had been acquired from then-owner Sinclair Broadcast Group to Quincy Media, then owners of NBC affiliate WEEK-TV, with WHOI's news and ABC programming being simulcast on WEEK 25.2 from August 1 until being moved permanently to WEEK 25.2 on October 1 and as a result, WHOI flipped to Comet.

In 2025, Sinclair filed with the FCC to trade WSJV in Elkhart–South Bend, Indiana for WHOI, which resulted in Gray owning both the WEEK-TV and WHOI licenses.
