On January 13, 1995, WTTE began to carry programming in the overnight hours from the upstart United Paramount Network. This arrangement ended in 1997, when UPN programming was moved to WB affiliate WWHO on a secondary basis until 2000, when the station gave a primary affiliation after its purchase by UPN's parent Viacom through the Paramount Stations Group.

On January 7, 2021, Sinclair Broadcast Group (owner of WSYX and operator of WTTE & WWHO) moved the "Fox 28" intellectual property to WSYX 6.3 and converted WTTE's main signal into a primary affiliate of Sinclair-owned TBD (moving up from WTTE 28.2), as part of Columbus's upgrade to ATSC 3.0. As Sinclair effectively owns Cunningham Broadcasting (the owner of WTTE's licensed assets), this makes WTTE a de-facto TBD O&O station.
