The station originally started as KJMH which signed on January 6, 1988 as a Fox affiliate serving the southern portion of the Quad Cities market. However, KLJB-TV was also affiliated with the network at the same time and suffered interference and duplication. On March 20 of that same year, KLJB-TV disaffiliated with Fox and led to channel 26 becoming Fox's sole affiliate for the Quad Cities area.

KGWB-TV
2001–2006

In 2006, KGWB-TV became a local affiliate of The CW Television Network, upon the merger of UPN and The WB, and was rebranded as KGCW under new call letters.
