On February 27, 1981, KMJ-TV was sold to San Joaquin Communications, who changed the stations callsign to KSEE on that day. In turn, the station was then sold to the Meredith Corporation 3 years later.

Meredith subsequently sold the station to Granite Broadcasting, in a deal that included CBS affiliate WTVH in Syracuse, New York, on December 27, 1993.

In 2012, Granite announced it will sell KSEE to Nexstar Broadcasting Group in form a duopoly with CBS affiliate KGPE following the company's acquisition of the said station from Newport Television together with fellow NBC affiliate KGET-TV and Telemundo affiliate KKEY-LP in Bakersfield in November of that year, the FCC approved the sale on January 23, 2013; which was completed on February 19 of the same year.
