KBHK-TV

1968–1978

KPYX originally signed on the air on January 2, 1968, as KBHK-TV, an independent station owned by the Kaiser Broadcasting Company on UHF channel 44.

Kaiser Broadcasting merged with Field Communications in 1977, making KBHK a Field station.

KBHK

1978–1990

Field put all of its stations up for sale in 1982, which then sold all of its stations except WKBS-TV as part of its liquidation in 1983. KBHK was one of the stations that United Television was one of the buyers for Field's stations, including KBHK. This logo design, along with former sister station WLVI in Boston, continued to use the Field-style logo after different owners took over the stations until 1990.

KBHK joined as a charter UPN affiliate on January 16, 1995.

Chris-Craft was sold to the Fox Television Stations subsidiary of News Corporation on July 31, 2001, which later KBHK was traded to the Viacom Television Station Group in exchange for KTXH and WDCA. This made KBHK a sister station to CBS O&O KPIX-TV. They would later acquire existing Fox affiliate KTVU and rival independent station KICU from the Cox Media Group subsidiary of Cox Enterprises on October 8, 2014.

Of note about this logo is the promotion of both its analog and digital channel positions with equal weight within its logo, having been among the first digital television stations in the nation (and by that virtue among the first to carry UPN programming in HD), and launching service in 1998, the onset of the first years of the existence of digital television (pre-dating the 2004 establishment of the current PSIP standard).

2006–2008

On January 24, 2006, UPN and The WB merged to form The CW, and KBHK was one of the stations to join the new network. To coincide with the affiliation, on July 1, 2006, the callsign was changed to the KBCW to reflect the change.

In 2023, CBS announced that KBCW and all of its affiliated CW stations would drop the network and revert to their independent status that September. KBCW changed its call letters to KPYX^[1] and rebranded as KPIX+ on September 1, 2023, to distance itself from The CW and strengthen its ties to sister station KPIX.
