On April 12, 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav announced a new name and logo for the merged streaming service for HBO Max and Discovery+, under a reformulated app, called Max, although retaining Discovery+ operational as a separate service until today. The HBO branding was dropped from the name as Warner Bros. Discovery wanted to appeal to a larger audience and did not want people to assume that the streaming service was not meant for young audiences. The wordmark pays homage to HBO and Warner Bros., as the lowercase "a" is based on the center-dotted "O" from the premium channel's longtime logo, and the curves of the lowercase "m" and the "x" are based on the shield curves of the iconic Warner Bros. logo. The service was launched in the United States on May 23, 2023. It later launched in Latin America and Caribbean on February 27, 2024, Europe (except Poland) on May 21, 2024, Poland and France on June 11, 2024 and in Asia on November 19, 2024, replacing HBO Go.

The service retained its original name HBO Max in the Netherlands and Belgium (where it was launched on July 1, 2024), in order to avoid confusion with local streaming Services who also uses “Max” at their namings, like NPO member broadcaster Omroep MAX and VRT's VRT MAX. [3][1] On March 21, 2024, the service unveiled a new logo adopting the logo of the Max brand used in other parts of the world, whilst using the HBO logo, similarly to the previous HBO Max logos. The rebrand took effect on June 11, 2024 in the Netherlands.[4]
