At E3 2001, a cube-shaped G symbol was added to the left of the wordmark following the final model's reveal. On the console startup, it would begin with the purple cube forming the 'G' out of flat purple squares, with a xylophone tune playing in the background. After the cube finishes, it hops into the center of the logo, where it completely forms, and the console name appears below. In commercial end tags, the purple cube would instead turn clockwise and morph into the finished logo, accompanied by a female voice whispering "GameCube".
After the console was discontinued in 2008, GameStop still made the console and its games available to buy pre-owned until 2012. Additionally, the GameCube controller would also be programmed for use in Wii games like Mario Kart Wii.
