The Famicombox (Japanese: ファミコンボックス, Romaji: Famikonbokkusu) was a large Nintendo kiosk launch in October 1986 used in hotels, ryokan (Japanese inns), department stores, stores, hospitals, or other public places, to allow guests to try Famicom games either for a fee or for free (depending on the model). Similar to the NES M82 and NES M8 American Version demo units, this Japan exclusive held 15 Famicom cartridges, and oddly displayed "Nintendo Entertainment System" branding. These units were key-operated, allowed timed or free play for built-in games, and were for commercial rental; not home use. It was not sold to the public, but leased or distributed through partnerships, primarily by Nintendo Co., Ltd. in collaboration with hospitality company JTB Traveland Inc. (a subsidiary of Japan Travel Bureau)
