This was the logo seen on very early arcade flyers and instruction cards under the different name, Flippy.[1] The name was chosen based on the way how the character moved, but later it had to be changed to Flicky due to trademark issues in North America as it was too similar to Mappy.[1][2]

Yoji Ishii: Originally the game was being developed under the title “Busty.” But before it came out, the branch office in the U.S. asked us to change the title because “busty” was a slang word that didn’t have a very good meaning. So we changed it to “Flippy,” which was based on the way the character moved. But then it was decided to change it again because “Flippy” was too close to “MAPPY.””
