This logo was used for the domain gmail.com, when it was under development. This Gmail logo was only used for a couple of days before switching to the next one. The 'M' in the logo is off-centered.
While Gmail dramatically received a major redesign in April 2013, this was still used on its Basic HTML layout until March 2016 (5 months after Google received a completely new logo), when the logo was finally updated to reflect the search engine's new identity.
Despite nearly 3 new logos being created, this logo's white variation would continue to be used for some custom themes until 2012.

BETTER LOGO NEEDED
Google Apps changed its logo on November 15, 2010, to coincide with Google's new logo, so Gmail along with Google AdWords got its new logo. With this, Google also introduced a new layout in all its services on the same day, including Gmail.
Gmail began to use this icon as their favicon on May 20, 2013[3], though, it had been officially used since 2011[4]

The previous logo was altered, to fit the Material Design icon specifications. This logo first appeared on the mobile application version of Gmail seen on Android version 5.0 Lollipop on September 1, 2014, but it made its way to the Google site and the Gmail site itself sometime later on November 2, 2014, along with the logos of the respective Android versions of other apps by Google (excluding Google Chrome until October 2015). Despite of this logo's discontinuation in 2020, this logo was visible on the mobile web version until 2024.
In March 2016, the basic HTML logo was replaced with this one, after 12 years. On April 25, 2018, Gmail launched its logo on the desktop layout, along with the release of a new Material Design based layout, and the old layout would be discontinued later in the year. This change had the 2014 icon, with the word "Gmail" written in Product Sans next to it.
2020–2026
This logo was teased in a YouTube video in July 2020.[5] The logo was officially unveiled on October 6, 2020. This logo debuted on October 17, 2020 on the website.
