In 1973, DWFM was launched in the frequency of 92.3 MHz by Nation Broadcasting Corporation (NBC). Previously, the frequency was used by Philippine Broadcasting Service under the station DZFM-FM (the second FM station) back in 1967 and it was shut down in 1972 during Martial Law.

In 2004, the Rhythms branding was dropped and the station became 923 Joey, while keeping the smooth jazz format.
In 2005, DZRU became the lone NBC station in Metro Manila after NBC sold all its AM stations to SMNI, including DZAR in Manila, which is now off-air with the suspension (later cease-and-desist) order of the NTC against SMNI in 2023.

Radyo5 92.3 News FM
2010–2013
On November 8, 2010, TV5 took over the operations of DWFM and NBC's radio stations, which became Radyo5, and adopted a news and talk format that was more common in most AM radio stations - thus deviating from all the other FM stations that were mostly dedicated to music and entertainment.
With this reformat, the station moved from Silver City Mall in Pasig to TV5's compound in Novaliches, Quezon City.
2013–2018
On December 2013, the station moved again, to TV5 Media Center in Mandaluyong City.

True FM's tenure on 92.3 ended on November 3, 2024, as it moved to DWLA 105.9 FM on November 4, 2024, ending NBC's tenure on 92.3 FM after 51 years, as well as the Radyo5 brand that established in 2010. Despite the move, True FM continues to operate from TV5 Media Center.

On October 28, 2024, it was announced that Philippine Collective Media Corporation (PCMC) will acquire DWFM 92.3 FM from Nation Broadcasting Corporation pending regulatory approval, serving it as a flagship station for Favorite Music Radio in Mega Manila and was rebranded as FM Radio 92.3 on November 4. In the meantime while awaiting approval from regulators, PCMC leased its airtime first on 92.3 FM to NBC before acquiring the station.
Alongside this, the station moved its studio located at 5th Floor, The Ignacia Place, 62 Sgt. Esguerra Ave corner Mother Ignacia Ave., Barangay South Triangle, Diliman, Quezon City - right across the ABS-CBN Broadcast Center from where sister station DWPM (jointly managed by PCMC and ABS-CBN) broadcasts.
