MagSafe (2006)

The MagSafe was first introduced on January 10, 2006, alongside the MacBook Pro. Its primary function was to offer a secure yet easily detachable connection between the power adapter and MacBook. The magnetic design ensured that if someone accidentally tripped over the cable, it would detach without causing the laptop to tumble. The design was revised in 2012 to suit thinner laptops, and was known as MagSafe 2.

Apple phased out the original MagSafe and MagSafe 2 with the release of the 12-inch MacBook and the 2016 MacBook Pro which both used only USB-C for charging. The last MacBook with MagSafe before 2021, the 2017 MacBook Air, was discontinued on July 9, 2019.

MagSafe (2020)

The product was reincarnated for the iPhone 12 series in 2020, marking its foray into the smartphone accessory domain. In 2021, Apple reintroduced the MagSafe to the MacBook by releasing the MagSafe 3 with the release of the updated 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models.
