It is unknown why the logo changed a bit, but on an iOS 8 build made for a prototype iPhone 6, there were minor changes such as a more neon band, and a lighter font used on the time.

From iOS 8.2 to iOS 8.4.1, the app was named "Apple Watch." Since iOS 9, it is simply called "Watch."

In iOS 12.1.1, the icon changed to reflect the Apple Watch Series 4. Strangely, the icon was reverted in iOS 13. The 12.1.1 icon was brought back once more in iOS 13.3.
2020–2023

The icon was updated in iOS 14.2 to match the new Apple Watch Solo Loop.
2023–2024

The icon was changed slightly in iOS 17.

This icon was introduced in iOS 18 and used until iOS 18.1 beta 5.
2024–2025

This icon was introduced in iOS 18.1 beta 5. It removed the side button from the icon.
