November 1969 (credit cards) January 1, 1970 (retail)
Modern rendition
Following the Atlantic Richfield Company's acquisition of Sinclair in 1969, it sought to unify its service stations under the ARCO banner. This brand was first used on credit cards issued by Atlantic Richfield in November 1969. A preliminary launch of the new identity occurred in January 1970, with conversions in five markets (mostly in the south/east) (including Sinclair locations with an identical Sinclair logo). Ten cities across the country were later selected for the first major wave of ARCO unification in June. This logo is used a secondary logo since 2000.
2000–2013 (primary), 2013-present (secondary)
Atlantic Richfield was acquired by BP in 2000. Though the original company was dissolved, the ARCO brand was retained for markets in the Western United States. This logo became a secondary logo when ARCO was acquired by Tesoro in 2013. This logo would continue to be used for station canopies.
2013–present
This logo was first adopted for station pumps in 2012. The next year, Tesoro acquired ARCO and this would become the primary logo for the brand. In 2017, the first ARCO stations in Mexico were opened. Tesoro (now renamed Andeavor) was acquired by Marathon Petroleum in 2018.
