Boron was the name adopted by the Standard Oil Company of Ohio (Sohio) for areas where other Standard Oil-named companies operated, such as Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky, Michigan, Indiana, and New York. These service stations were owned by a subsidiary, Boron Oil Company, named after Sohio's premium gasoline grade. In 1956, the first Boron branded service station opened in Covington, Kentucky across the river from Cincinnati. Boron and Sohio were converted into BP stations in 1991.
