SCTV is the second-oldest privately owned Indonesian television channel (after RCTI) and the third-oldest Indonesian television channel (after TVRI), as well as one of the most-watched television channels in the country.

It was launched on 24 August 1990, to relay RCTI shows in Surabaya and other cities on East Java. Today, it is broadcasting nationwide and owned by Emtek, through its subsidiary Surya Citra Media.

The early abbreviation of SCTV was Surabaya Centra Televisi until 1991, when the network expanded its coverage to Bali.

1993–2003

This logo was officially introduced in July 1993 when SCTV began to air nationwide along with RCTI. Along with this logo, SCTV had used the slogan Selalu Siap Menemani Anda. This logo began to use on idents in 1994 and as an on-air logo in 1995. On 1 June 1997, SCTV began using the slogan SCTV NgeTop! (with series of station IDs produced by Indo-Ad) due to competition with other private television stations. Later in 1998, SCTV completely moved their headquarters to Jakarta from Surabaya.

On 1 August 2003, slight changes were applied to the logo, mainly by reducing its light shadows. It was purposed to serve as a more visible logo to its on-air graphics and print-based promotions. Its 1997 slogan and idents remain unchanged.

On 29 January 2005, SCTV overhauled its logo for the first time since its launch, designed by Jakarta-based Playgroup Asia, which was newly founded at the time. It was also introduced a new slogan, Satu Untuk Semua, with series of station IDs produced by Irfan Wahid of 25 Frames.

The rebranding event was initially planned for 31 December 2004, but was postponed due to a tsunami in Aceh earlier in the same month.
