RCTI is the first privately-owned television channel in Indonesia, launched on August 24, 1989 by a joint venture of Bimantara Citra and Rajawali Corpora. Since 2003, it is owned by MNC Asia Holding through its namesake subsidiary Media Nusantara Citra.
1989–1991
RCTI as a company was founded in 1987 and its namesake network began test broadcasts on 13 November 1988, using a cable-based set-top box system. The station was officially launched on 24 August 1989, as a pay television network in Jakarta. One year later, it became free-to-air and subsequently began to air nationwide around 1993.
During its early broadcast, RCTI's on-air bug was a simple text until the early 1990s, when it started to use the full logo. It was placed on the right top with the exception of when it was relaying TVRI's news programs, when the logo was moved to the top left.

On 25 August 1993, the logo was slightly updated by reducing its stripes from eleven to seven (including the red ones). One year later, several new station IDs by 25 Frames were launched, along with its new slogan, RCTI Oke (accompanied by a new, iconic 6-note jingle set to the rhythm of the channel's slogan, composed by Fariz RM, still in use today). The former two logos were still used as corporate and off-air logos until 2000.
The 1994 idents were retained until 2008.
