Before the MoPar name was written on the logo, the logo was written with the letters "P, D, C, and D", which were initials for the four car brands, Plymouth, Dodge, Chrysler, and DeSoto.

In 1937, MoPar was officially launched, first used by Chrysler as a product name to put on cans of Chrysler Motor Parts Antifreeze. This new branded product became known as "MoPar antifreeze", with its name being a portmanteau of "motor" and "parts".

Mopar was from FCA group. In 2020, the merger of the PSA and FCA groups was announced, forming the Stellantis group, where Mopar and other brands will enter in 2021.
