Modelo Prisunic
1988–1993
In 1988, French supermarket chain Prisunic formed a joint-venture with Sonae to form Modelo Prisunic for their mid-sized hypermarkets. Until 1993, Modelo Prisunic opened eight shopping centers (Portimão, Albufeira, Loulé, Beja, Montijo, Caldas da Rainha, Vila Real and Viseu).
Modelo (second era)
1993–2011
In 1993, Prisunic sold their share of the company and thus it reverted back to being Modelo with its and colors alluding to sister chain Continente.
Continente Modelo
2011–present
On March 15th. 2011, Modelo and Continente were merged into a single retailer brand under the Continente name, with its existing and future mid-sized hypermarkets being now branded as Continente Modelo.
