Horch was an automobile brand founded in 1899. Its name means "listen" (in German) to imply that the engine's sound was powerful. In 1909, the company began to create a new car brand under a new name (and one that also meant "hear", however, in Latin; hence, "Audi". The two brands continued until 1932, when they merged with two other companies with two other brands (DKW and Wanderer) to form Auto Union.
