E4's chunky purple logo was in use from the channel's launch on 18 January 2001 for 17 years. In July 2003, E4 launched a timeshift service called E4 +1 and in December 2009, E4 launched a high definition service called E4 HD.
On the morning of Thursday 27 September 2018, Channel 4 introduced new logos for all its secondary channels that incorporated the iconic '4' logo. This meant saying goodbye to the E4 logo that had been in use since the channel launched in 2001, and a new logo being introduced with E4 incorporating the Channel 4 logo; in which the 'E' from the previous logo - albeit widened and coloured in purple - is placed in the middle of the Channel 4 logo.
