CStar was originally founded on June 20, 2002, as MCMtv. Upon its foundation, it was originally a TV production company, but there was already a channel with the same name, albeit without the "TV" text.

On October 17, 2005, MCMtv was reorganized under a television channel known as Europe 2 TV. Its name was taken from the radio network Europe 2.

Its identity was created by View. The idents centered around loudspeakers that were situated in odd places, such as on a tattooed man, a bicycle, or a pair of sneakers.

In tandem with the rebrand of Europe 2 to Virgin Radio, Europe 2 TV relaunched as Virgin 17 at 00:00 CET on January 1, 2008.

The new identity was created by View.

Direct Star

In March 2010, Lagardère entered talks about selling Virgin 17 to Bolloré Media.[1] The deal was finalized in June. As a result of the change in ownership, Virgin 17 changed its name to Direct Star. The relaunch was scheduled for 19:00 CEST on September 1, 2010.

The logo for the relaunched channel was revealed on July 27, 2010. The new logo and graphics were created by Dream On.
