VEON (formerly VimpelCom) is a global telecommunications company owned largely by Russian interests (particularly Altimo), but headquartered in Amsterdam. It is the world’s tenth-largest telecom company by subscriber base.
VEON operates primarily using the Beeline brand in its home market of Russia (until 2022) as well as several Eurasian countries. It also uses a number of other brands, such as Jazz (formerly Mobilink) in Pakistan, Banglalink in Bangladesh and Kyivstar in Ukraine.
Telenor, the Norwegian telecom conglomerate, was a major shareholder in VEON until September 2017, when it reduced its stake to 14.8%. It no longer has an influence over VEON.[1][2] Some of Telenor’s subsidiaries are in direct competition with VEON’s subsidiaries, such as Telenor Pakistan that competes with Jazz, and Grameenphone that competes with Banglalink.
