In April 2008, co-founder Jeff Atwood created a poll through his Coding Horrors blog for choosing the name of the website that would eventually decided to be "Stack Overflow". In the same month, he held a logo design contest on 99designs. The winner was chosen to be of user pb_design (Peter Borlace).

This redesign was introduced in a vote in 2025[1], but the redesign didn't launch sitewide until February 2026.
