Sun Unix
1982–1983
| NO KNOWN LOGO |
Before Solaris and Oracle Solaris, the preliminary name was known as "Sun UNIX". There are no confirmed logos at this moment.
SunOS
1983–1991
One year after, Sun Unix rebranded to SunOS. The logo is identical to Sun Microsystems, albeit with "SunOS".
SunOS would rebrand to Solaris in 1991 for marketing purposes. However, "SunOS" would still show on the SPARC Processor BIOS screens.
Solaris
1991–1995
Sun Microsystems changed SunOS's name to "Solaris" for marketing purposes. This logo has been rarely seen on Sun Solaris versions, ranging 2.0–2.5.
1995–1997
This logo was last used on packaging for Sun Solaris 2.5.
1997-1998
This was a short lived logo, which lasted for one release.
1998–2005
This logo was used for Solaris 7–10.
2005–2010
This logo was the second logo to be used in one release only. Specifically for Solaris 10, in some update releases.
Oracle Solaris
2010–2017 (mainstream), 2010–2018 (brand)
After Sun Microsystems was acquired by Oracle, Solaris was rebranded to "Oracle Solaris". This logo lasted until the release of Solaris 11.4 in 2018.
On September 2, 2017, Oracle had laid off the last of the Solaris Development Team. Oracle had shown no plans to support future development for the platform. However, support doesn't end until 2037.
