In 1987, all of the variants of the original National logos including "N-mark" variants were retired in favor of its English wordmark alone, introduced in 1973.

This logo was used as an alternate, and it was also appeared on its earlier products before the introduction of its dedicated wordmark.
Both the English original logo and its N-mark variant were replaced by the updated N-mark logo written in Helvetica in 1973.

In 1973, National adopted a new wordmark modeled after the Panasonic logo introduced two years earlier.
Matsushita Electric later dropped the National name in Europe and Australia in 1980 and 1988 respectively. After seeing the international success of the Panasonic name, Matsushita began using the joint National Panasonic name in Japan and the rest of Asia in 1988. The National branding was gradually dropped on its audiovisual products but was retained on home appliances until 2003.
In April 2004, the remains of the brand began to be gradually phased out in Asian countries, and future products would be sold under the Panasonic name. The National name finally came to an end on October 1, 2008, when Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd. was renamed Panasonic Corporation (later renamed to Panasonic Holdings Corporation in 2022).

When National rebranded in 1973, a new "N-mark" logo was also created for use as an alternate.
In 1987, this version of the English N-mark logo was also discontinued.
