The station was established in 1973 by the Banahaw Broadcasting Corporation, a company owned by the late Marcos crony, Roberto Benedicto, on 1160 AM under the call letters DWWA. The frequency was formerly held by an ABS-CBN station, DZQL, before ABS-CBN was forcibly closed in September 23, 1972.
In 1975, it became the sole AM station of BBC when new regulations restricting broadcast companies to owning just one AM station led to BBC shutting down its other AM station, DWWX 620 (also formerly of another ABS-CBN station, DZXL), DWWW of RPN taking its place there, and RPN giving DWKW 600 (which then moved to 1280, the former frequency of DWWW) to IBC, which RPN's owner Roberto Benedicto acquired on February 1 that year.

MMDA Traffic Radio 1206 kHz
2007–2010
On September 24, 2007, the station was relaunched as MMDA Traffic Radio under the management of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority. On July 13, 2010, MMDA Traffic Radio went off the air as an effect of Typhoon Conson's onslaught, but returned on-air after a week. However, on August 17, 2010, both the AM station and MMDA Traffic Radio permanently ceased operations as part of austerity measures. Prior to its closure, the radio and cable TV operation was costing the agency at least PHP1 million (US$ 22 million) in every month.
