Introduced in October 1997 which saw all departments, brands, and channels of the BBC using the same logo typeface and layout, with a view on saving costs with colour logos. The personality of the brand was conveyed in other means.

As part of the BBC’s broadcaster-wide rebrand on 20 October 2021 and in preparation of its 100th anniversary in 2022, BBC Radio 4 launched a new logo that incorporated numeral in Reith typeface and existing circle, with the new 'BBC Radio' part moved to the centre left in line with all national radio stations.
