In 1985, following a legal challenge from TDK over trademark infringement, TTK changed its name to TCL, which was an abbreviation for Telephone Communication Limited at the time.

In 2006, TCL introduced the well-known squared logo with the current slogan and meaning of its name "The Creative Live".
TCL completed its assets reorganization and was split into TCL Industrial and the current TCL in April 2019, but the legal name of the current company was still to be "TCL Corporation" until it eventually changed to "TCL Technology Group Corporation" on February 7, 2020.
