In 1995, SoftKey acquired The Learning Company and assumed its name, and following after it's fated the company due to announced that it had sued the Tribune Company for violating securities laws as a "strategic partner" of it's company.

In 1999, the company was acquired by Mattel in what Businessweek called one of "the Worst Deals of All Time". It was subsequently folded into Mattel Interactive, among others.
