In 2019, it was announced that MineCon would be replaced by Minecraft Festival (replacing the in-person events, the last of which was held in 2016) and Minecraft Live (the new name for the virtual events, organized since 2017). Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 edition of Minecraft Festival was cancelled, with its debut postponed to late 2022, making Minecraft Live the only major official Minecraft event for 2020 and 2021.
