First was created in 1995 from the merger of Grampian Regional Transport and Badgerline.

In late 2024, First introduced a new logo for their bus operation, including the word ‘bus’
The previous logo continued to be used for the parent First Group. The various rail operations had already dropped ‘First’ branding some years previously, in favour of individual brands for each line such as GWR, TransPennine Express, and Hull Trains.
